A series about the creators defining the rules of creativity today
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE FREE?
Facing the current context, and the reflection it entails, we decided to dedicate our birthday celebration to exploring Freedom. After all, Canal180 started broadcasting on April 25th - the Portuguese Freedom Day - as an alternative platform to tell the other stories that are so often overlooked by mainstream media.
So, what is freedom? The answer will come, as it is usual for us, from the independent creative voices that make up our ever-growing community. Through a film, a series and a special TV programme, we present views of artists, directors, curators, musicians, photographers and thinkers, that defy the dominant narratives and challenge concepts of freedom, at a time when its definition seems both so difficult and important to grasp.

We challenged illustrators Tara Deacon, Wasted Rita, Jordy van den Nieuwendijk and Jonathan Calugi to illustrate what freedom currently means to them. We put their illustrations together in a birthday kit which we are sending out to you, so that even though we are unable to celebrate with a party IRL, we all feel closer together.
Join our conversation about freedom here for the chance to receive one of our special birthday kits at home.
