For Thoughts On The Next Decade, we invited 10 artists and thinkers from our network to answer some critical questions and present their predictions on what the next decade will look like from their perspectives. Every episode of this series tries to emulate the idea of a time capsule, in which every artist or thinker invited starts the video with the date it was recorded.

At the end, a group of people from different points of the globe and with a connection to Canal180, transports a collection of thoughts to the collective memory. The final result is a series that gathers thoughts on music, culture, activism, festivals, photography, online platforms, architecture, technology and spirituality, and how these will evolve in the next 10 years. To answer our questions around film and cinema, we invited Allie Avital, a New York based film director whom we featured on this year’s season of Director ID. In the ninth part of Thoughts on the Next Decade, Allie Avital tells us about the importance of film in the next decade.

Are long formats the way to contextualize artistic work in the next decade? To answer our questions on that topic, we invited Elia Einhorn, the host and producer of both the Talkhouse Podcast and Pitchfork Radio, whom we met when we interviewed him for our video of Chicago Midwinter earlier this year. In the eight part of Thoughts on the Next Decade, Elia Einhorn tells us about the importance of conversation.

How will the European narratives evolve in the next decade? And what is media’s role in reshaping them, or fostering conversations about them? To answer our questions, we invited Marije Martens, the co-founder and editor of Are We Europe, a platform that provides an alternative perspective on Europe. In the seventh part of Thoughts on the Next Decade, Marije Martens tells us about how a mediated, responsible and collaborative media can foster conversations on the kind of Europe that we want to create.

How will music evolve in the upcoming decade? What kind of movements are likely to emerge? To answer our questions about music for the next decade, we invited Johann Wald, a DJ, actor and Spanish TV presenter who currently produces and hosts an array of shows on Radio Primavera Sound. In the sixth part of Thoughts on the Next Decade, Johann Wald tells us about how he thinks we can keep music interesting in the next decade.

Society is full of information and along with it comes a sort of arrogance that makes us think that we can find and know everything. And this made us reflect. How can we stay open to new realities in the next decade and go looking for them, stepping out of our own intellectual bubbles? In the fifth part of Thoughts On The Next Decade, Vincent Moon, a French independent filmmaker, presents his thoughts on rituals and spirituality in the digital age.

To answer our questions regarding the role of architecture in dismantling social hierarchy in the coming decade, we invited Vere Van Gool, a curator and writer based in New York. For the fourth episode of Thoughts On the Next Decade, we invited Vere Van Gool to talk about the future of the spaces we live in.

To present predictions on the evolution of photography in the next decade we invited Tania Franco Klein, a Mexican photographer whose work evokes a nostalgia for a paradise lost, highly influenced by her fascination with trying to understand the psychology of our contemporary society. In this episode, she presents her predictions on the evolution of photography in a saturated world of images.

Lucy Black-Swan is the co-founder of Internet Age Media, a group of ventures exploring the implications of digital technologies in the futures of the Planet, and so, we thought she was the best person to ask our questions around the future of our relationships with the internet.

In the second episode of Thoughts on the Next Decade, she tells us about becoming mindful of the place of internet platforms in our world and lives and shifting to long-term thinking, both when it comes to taking care of our minds and the planet.

To answer our questions surrounding how activism and the political society will evolve in the next decade, we invited Daniel Erlacher, whom we had previously met when we interviewed him for Thoughts on Collectivism. In this first episode of Thoughts on The Next Decade, he speaks about the role technology and the younger generation of activists, rising in the light of the climate crisis debate, will play in changing how we protest.
